Gold Chain and Necklace Buying Guide: Length, Weight and Price per Gram
By Narayan Jewellers, Lucknow · Published · Updated
Quick answer: A gold chain is priced mainly on weight: gold value = live rate per gram x grams, then making charges and GST are added. Compare purity, weight, length and making charge percentage - not just the final price - and check the BIS hallmark with HUID.
How a gold chain is priced
Because a chain is mostly metal, its price follows the gold rate closely. Today's rates are 22K = ₹13,271.90 per gram and 18K = ₹10,858.80 per gram (see the live rates page). A 10 g chain therefore has a gold value of roughly ten times the per-gram rate for its purity, before making charges and GST are added. The formula and a worked example are in how gold jewellery price is calculated.
Length, thickness and weight
Chain length is quoted in inches (shorter lengths sit close to the neck, longer ones hang lower). Thicker or longer chains weigh more, so they cost more. Try a length against your neckline and outfit before deciding, and compare the weight written on the product page.
Station necklaces and pendants
A station necklace has small elements (gold motifs, beads or stones) spaced along a fine chain. It looks light and is easy to layer, so it works well for daily wear. Where stones are used, the stone value is added to the price, and the product page shows it separately. Browse current designs, including station and black-clover styles, in the gold chains and necklaces collection.
